Grading Notes

Attends full class: 10 points

Unexcused late to class or out of classroom (nurse, bathroom, office, etc): points deducted based on time out of class

Visits to the nurse's office without a parental follow-up note or phone call will constitute a skipped class

Classes skipped without permission will be a negative 30 points

Six excused absences (a note from parent or guardian in office) are allowed per semester without effecting attendance & participation grades. After six excused absences, any excused absence will result in a 0 for that missed class; make-up classes may be scheduled at the instructor's discretion and by student request.

Participation/Effort:  10 points: Excellent effort, tries everything even if not perfect technically, positively contributes to class atmosphere, shares thoughts related to topics under discussion and in practice, is considerate of others in the class, dresses appropriately for dance class, performs their choreography willingly with classmates, is joyful and energetic, demonstrates leadership ability, participates and practices willingly, turns assignments in on time.

Points are deducted for half-hearted lackadaisical effort, for inappropriate dress for class, for inconsiderate behaviors, for negative comments in class which detract from other participants' positive class experience, for repetitive classroom interruptions such as leaving for the nurse's office, the bathroom, the main office, tardiness

0 points for no attendance, for zero participation/effort, for repeat class dress code violations

Negative 10 points for failure to bring in assignments on the date they are due since classmates are often dependent on other students for the production of choreography in class on the due dates. Dance is a team sport and art form and requires team participation and cooperation.

Assignments can earn 25 points when presented on the due date and all the expectations of the assignment's rubric are met. Points are deducted each class period the assignment is late or if major elements of the assignment have not been executed.

0-5 points are assigned for recording improvement from week to week.

The Final Performance of class choreography will be graded on a 100% scale. (Public performances of choreography will be determined by student readiness; it may not be a requirement of the introductory class (TBD), however some classes have requested and were prepared to present their work to others in the school or the community. Studio performances of work in progress with an audience may constitute the final performance.)
